The ancient Egypt for kids would be easy to understand if looked at in the right order. The beginning of history started with Egypt being the most fertile land of Africa and around the Mediterranean Sea. The land of Egypt was so vast that it was divided into two parts, upper Egypt and lower Egypt. Upper Egypt was fertile land near the river Nile where the Egyptian people grew crops and it was called the white crown. Lower Egypt was deserts around the sides of Egypt which separated Egypt from neighboring countries. This was called the red crown.
In around 3000 BC the one of the King’s of the upper Egypt wanted to have control over all the Egypt so he defeated the King of lower Egypt and united the kingdom into a single Egypt. This new King was called Narmer of Menes the Pharaoh of Egypt. He built a new capital for Egypt at the city Memphis. This was the old age of Egypt.
First Intermediate Period
The ancient Egypt for kids can be divided into three main periods. After the takeover of the Pharaoh people got engaged in the worshipping of Pharaohs as their King and Gods. The Pharaohs also engaged in human sacrifices. Tombs were built in Pyramid shape for the kings. But this period was soon over as power was taken from the Pharaohs by the rebels. The Kingdom was divided again into two parts.
This was the start of Egypt’s middle kingdom. In around 2000 BC Egypt was reunited after several wars. The rule of the kingdom was now in the hands of Nomarchs and Pharaohs with Nomarchs being more powerful.
Second Intermediate Period
With Pharaohs of that time not being so powerful the kingdom was soon invaded in 1786 BC by Hykos form West Asia. Many wars of liberation were fought between the Egyptians and other invaders. The Kingdom was over won again and the era of the new kingdom started.
The ancient Egypt for kids now gets interesting as the Egyptians enter the period of prosperity. This was the time of Pharaohs like Akhenaten, Tutankhamon and Rameses. This time can even be found in the Holy Books of different religions. They ruled like gods and thought of their people as slaves. Trading and construction in the land of Egypt was also at vast. Their rule lasted for around 1100 BC as the New Kingdom collapsed as well.
Third Intermediate Period
Briefly the ancient Egypt for kids is a story of the ups and downs of the kingdoms of Egypt which was dominated by Pharaohs. The land went through different ages of being ruled by Persians, Greeks, Romans and Muslims. It is now a Muslim country with lots of historical places to see.
